About the Event :

Adult Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of mental illness and substance use disorders. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to some-one who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help them to appropriate care.

We are able offer this course at no cost through a grant to anyone currently employed by a non-profit agency in Cameron, Willacy, or Hidalgo county and/or our target population for this training includes Veterans, active military service members, family members of Veterans or active military service members, law enforcement, EMS, and firefighters residing in Cameron, Willacy, or Hidalgo county. (Please do not register if you do not meet this criteria.) You must be 18 years or older to participate.

This course requires 2-hours of self-paced pre-work that MUST BE COMPLETED prior to attending the 5-hour virtual classroom via Zoom. Links and instructions for the self-paced pre-work will be sent via email to participants enrolled two weeks prior to the course. Once the pre-work is completed, participants will receive a link to the Zoom portion of the training, which will be on Saturday, April 10, 2021 from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM CST.

If you are unable to attend after enrolling in the course, you will need to notify Erika Merla at emerla@ttbh.org immediately to open up seats for other participants. Attendees must have video and audio capabilities and be present on screen during the whole class to be certified as a Mental Health First Aider. After completing the pre-work and Zoom portion of the training, you will become certified in Mental Health First Aid for three years.
