How To Be a Mental Health First Responder: What You Can Do or Say When Someone You Know Needs Help
Have you ever taken a First Aid or CPR course? These are designed to help you know what to do or say until someone who is hurt can get medical attention. This presentation will demonstrate why it is just as important to know how to respond to someone having emotional or behavioral challenges. Carrie Parmelee, Coordinator of Sussex Intensive Family Support Services and Family Support Specialist of the Mental Health Association of Essex and Morris, will provide participants with tips for communicating and starting the conversation when concerned about someone. For example, what might a panic attack look like and how should you respond or what's the best way to react when someone reports seeing or hearing things that you do not. Information about Mental Health First Aid, a world wide certification course, will be shared.
