About the Event :

Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. This training gives adults who work with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to adolescents (ages 12-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.

WHAT IT COVERS • Common signs and symptoms of mental illnesses in this age group, including: Anxiety, Depression, Eating disorders, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) • Common signs and symptoms of substance use. • How to interact with an adolescent in crisis. • How to connect the adolescent with help.

This course is 6.5 hours, with a 2 hour self-paced module that must be completed prior to the class date.

You must use a device with a webcam and microphone and both must work and be turned on. For most of the training we will ask you to mute yourself, but there are activities where you will need to speak and be heard. Webcams must be on during the entire training - so we know you are present, but also so we can use our mental health first aid skills if we see someone experiencing distress.

**Montgomery County Ohio residents (or those working in the county) and those in the surrounding area will be given preference. If you are from outside this area you can find classes near you here:

Participants that complete the full course will secure a three-year certification.

CEUs are not currently available for the virtual/blended course.

In order to ethically provide certification through the National Council for Behavioral Health, we use a platform that generates attendance time reports. We must have a total time in attendance for each participant and we are ethically bound to report the accumulated amount of time a participant attended, therefore we cannot issue certification to:

  • Individuals sharing a monitor, computer, and/or login
  • Individuals joining by audio phone only
  • Individuals missing more than 30 minutes

This session will not be recorded.
