What is COVID-19 ?

COVID-19 is a disease caused by corona virus. ‘CO’ stands for corona, ‘VI’ stands for virus, ‘D’ stands for disease and ‘19’ refers to the year in which its outbreak begun i.e. December 2019. Corona virus was discovered in Wuhan, China in December 2019. Corona virus mostly affects the lungs of the person who comes in contact of the virus. In severe cases only the virus affects other organs of the body.

Common symptoms of the virus include:-

  • fever
  • dry cough
  • difficulty in breathing
  • tiredness
  • chest pain

Less common symptoms include:-

  • aches and pains
  • sore throat
  • diarrhoea
  • conjuctivitis
  • headache
  • loss of taste and smell
  • rashes

Precautions :-

  • social distancing-stay indoors until necessary
  • wear masks and gloves
  • maintain a distance of at least 3 feet
  • wash your hands regularly
  • sanitize products before bringing them home
  • sanitize your surroundings

What has this pandemic done to us ?

Most importantly this has infected 12.5 million people and killed approximately 560k across the globe.

COVID-19 has impacted the global economy severely due to months of lock down imposed in most of the countries to maintain social distancing. A jaw-dropping figure i.e. approximately 1.6 billion people lost their jobs worldwide. People starved to death due this pandemic and had to return to their home towns without any conveyance . People stayed away from their loved ones in different corners of the world for more than 3 months locked inside their homes. All of this has severely impacted mental health of the people.

COVID-19 has impacted the minds of people so much that people will be terrified to stand in crowds and touch public properties even after the the pandemic is over. They won’t be able to shake hands with strangers and hug their friends without hesitating. People won’t be able to relish their favorite street food with a thought that if there was complete sanitation or not while it was being prepared.

People have no physical activity to do and with gyms, parks and other public places locked and they are getting obese. Only the people passionate about maintaining their body are exercising and also conducting workout sessions.

The studies of students was affected severely because all of a sudden this disease was spread and schools and universities didn’t have a proper plan ready for conducting online sessions and subjects like mathematics and economics are difficult to be understood virtually. Also children who recently started going to pre-primary classes will have a halt in education of 1 year , this 1 year could have been used by them when they’d be grown to explore career opportunities.

For the people who were lucky to be at their home with the ones they love during this pandemic got a chance to strengthen their bonds with them. Spending all day playing, talking, working together strengthens the bonds and also helps us to keep our mental health stable.

This pandemic silently boosted people’s immunity because for three months during the lock down there was no intake of fast food and junk food. Also it made a lot of people better cooks, by inducing them to cook what they crave, for themselves.

This Pandemic helped reduce global pollution levels. Due to lock down in many countries industries and vehicles were abandoned and this helped in bringing down pollution levels

A lot of people started acquiring new skills and also started courses so as to keep themselves busy.

This pandemic helped countries grow digitally. With everything going online in all the countries, companies developed software to supply their products and services. Demand for IT companies increased and many more entered the market with innovative ideas.
